In The Fullness Of Time, By: Lowman S. Henry

In The Fullness Of Time Let the Presidential nominating process unfold By: Lowman S. Henry The 2011 General Election has yet to be held, but already the mainstream media and its associated pundits are decrying the fact no one candidate has emerged as a prohibitive favorite for the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination. Of course, not a single actual vote has been cast in the nominating process and the first caucus and primary balloting is about two months away. Such angst is fed by the Left’s desire to narrow the field to a single target, someone who can be investigated, pummeled and scorned in the months leading up to the GOP’s quadrennial nominating convention late next summer in Tampa, Florida. With seven or eight candidates vying for the affections of primary voters, it is hard to draw a bead on the eventual winner since we don’t yet know who that person will be. Such “nattering” should be ignored. There is a well-established process for selecting a presidential nominee and that process must be allowed to unfold. The nomination of a candidate for President of the United States is steeped in tradition; it requires a candidate to master all the elements...

Porgy and Bess, November 12 and 19, 2011

For its fall concerts, The Choristers will present a concert version of Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin accompanied by four hands piano.  Soloists will be Rosella Washington (Soprano), Taiwan Norris (Tenor) and Frank Mitchell (Bass).  Originally conceived by Gershwin as an American folk opera, the work incorporates a wealth of blues and jazz idioms into the classical art form of opera.  The soloists and choir will present many of the well-known favorites including “Summertime”, “A Woman is a Sometime Thing”, “I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin’” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So.” Following in the theme of American folk songs, the choir will also present Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs.  This work, comprised of traditional 1800s tunes, was gathered by Copland from minstrels, lullabies, hymns and children’s songs.  By keeping the melodic material of most of the original songs intact, Copland showed fidelity toward the folk cultures from which they came.  What wonderful evenings of music! The concerts will be held Saturday November 12 at Valley Forge Presbyterian Church in King of Prussia, Pa and Saturday November 19 at Upper Dublin Lutheran Church in Ambler, Pa.  Both are at 7:30 PM.  Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens,...

The Uncomfortable Truth- By Scott Paterno

A few weeks before he announced his own run for the White House, Gov. Perry made the following statement: “Our friends in New York six weeks ago passed a statute that said marriage can be between two people of the same sex. And you know what? That’s New York, and that’s their business, and that’s fine with me. That is their call. If you believe in the 10th Amendment, stay out of their business.” It is a simple view of the 10th Amendment and one that certainly has merit: individual states should be left to their own devices on matters that are not, to paraphrase the Amendment, expressly delegated to the Federal Government. As Gov. Perry correctly notes, that includes the definition of marriage, among other things; absent a Constitutional amendment, the States have jurisdiction. The wording of the amendment is important. It reads: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” It is often referred to as “the reserved powers clause” because of its distinct wording; it limited federal constitutional powers to those powers specifically delegated while the...
