As many of you have heard we are no longer permitted to build or paint sets at Shannondell.  Everything must be designed to fit through normal 6’8″  by 6′ doors, built and painted off site and then trucked in an re-assembled on the stage.  Dana McGahey and I met yesterday to discuss how to bring Anatevca to life under the above restrictions and still have a striking set of the quality we, and our audiences have come to expect.  The solution we came up with is to use old barn wood or rough cut lumber to construct the buildings.  Using the old wood will save hours of work painting and distressing the new wood and canvas we usually use.  Aged, rough wood should make the set pieces pop and add a sense of reality and home to the show.  The other thing we will need is a set of wagon wheels, about 3 feet in diameter, from an old horse drawn wagon. We could build a set, but they would look like we built them.  We need to build Tevye a milk wagon he would be proud of.  All we need is the wood and wheels, preferably free.  If you know of an old wagon ready to loose its wheels, an outbuilding or barn that we could strip, or know of shipping pallets that someone would be willing to donate, please let me know.

Upper Merion Township EAC & ECDC 3^rd Environmental Educational Series

The third of a four part series of programs to explore saving Upper Merion residents money while benefiting the environment will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 from 7 to 8:30 pm in Freedom Hall of the Upper Merion Township Building.  The program is free to the public.

This lively forum will explore the environmental and economic impact of a variety of trash and recyclables collection systems.  Professionals and residents of communities using single haulers, multi-haulers, or municipal haulers will share their experience and knowledge.

This series is a joint effort of the Upper Merion Township Environmental Action Council and the Economic & Community Development Committee.  Information this event will be listed on the Upper Merion Township website and calendar at www.umtownship.org.

The Upper Merion Farmers Market is sponsoring a free showing of the popular PG-rated movie How to Tame Your Dragon. The event will take place at 8 p.m. on the lawn behind the Upper Merion Township Building at the Township Building Park. Please bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the show.

Saturday, May 19
The Upper Merion Farmers Market will open for its third season on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In celebration of this event, the market will host a Barbecue Rib Cook-off Contest sponsored by the Valley Forge Optimist Club. First, second, and third place trophies will be awarded to those participants who receive the most votes for their ribs. Also on opening day, the Upper Merion Police Department will provide free computerized fingerprinting for children under the age of 18-years-old. This important community service is useful in the identification of lost or abducted children. Parents who want to be proactive about the safety of their children are encouraged to bring them to the market for this event.

Along with these opening day activities, the Upper Merion High School Chamber Group will perform classical and modern selections.

On Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 11:17 PM,  Upper Merion Police responded to the 200 block of Crooked Lane  in the King Manor section of Upper Merion Township where a 26 year old woman had been attacked while entering her home.  The woman had just arrived at her residence and exited her car. As she was about to enter her home, a lone male lunged at her, demanding her purse.  The assailant stabbed the woman before running toward the street.

Upper Merion Police, with the assistance of a Lower Providence Police canine unit, searched the area for the unknown medium built male but no suspect was located. Lafayette Ambulance transported the victim to Paoli Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

King of Prussia Rotary Club Charitable Foundation made a contribution today to improve the educational capabilities of ACLAMO in Norristown, PA. Holding the $3,000 check are from left King of Prussia Rotary Club Project Chairman Ernest Zotolow, Executive Director of ACLAMO Juan Guerra, and President of the King of Prussia Rotary Club Carl Pinto. ACLAMO’s staff teaches language and study skills to children of Latin American parents. ACLAMO used the grant to purchase the equipment and installation from AVT digital Media Systems of Malvern, PA

Mothers of ACLAMO students gather in the computer training room that now is equipped an interactive digital whiteboard thanks to the King of Prussia Rotary Club. While the 35 pre-school children are gaining skills needed to do well in school, ACLAMO provides computer training for their mothers so that they gain skills to help them enter the workforce. King of Prussia Rotary Club Charitable Foundation grants support education in the local community through scholarships and projects that serve specific needs.

The King of Prussia Rotary Club is made up of professionals, business owners and institutional leaders that meet every Monday at 12:15 for lunch at Michael’s Deli. The Club’s Charitable Foundation awards over $35,000 annually in scholarships and projects that increase educational effectiveness.
